Martha, Martha

Luke 10: 40-42  As Jesus and his disciples were on their way he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said.  But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”  “Martha, Martha,” The Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

“Martha, Martha” So many of us are like Martha. We were raised to be doers. We strive to have a spotless house, a warm delicious meal on the table and perfect quiet children sitting around that table anxiously waiting to tell us about their day. I tend to fall into the Martha category, always striving to check another task off my “to do” list. Trying to do it all…

My fellow Marthas, we need to slow down.  We are missing the important. This week, take time to just be. Be a spouse. Be a parent. Be a child of God. When we get so busy doing we lose sight of the important beautiful things God has blessed us with.

Take time to BE with Jesus today!
