Mark 6:6-8 Then Jesus went around teaching from village to village. Calling the twelve to him, he sent them out two by two and gave them authority over evil spirits. These were his instructions: “Take nothing for the journey except a staff – no bread, no bag, no money in your belts.”
Jesus sends his disciples out into the world two by two to teach and share all they had learned during their time with Jesus. Now, I don’t know about you, but if I were leaving on mission trip, I would have a bag packed of “must haves”. What would you have in your bag of necessities? Jesus instructs his disciples to take nothing – no clothing, no snacks, no purse, no money. Do not hold tight to your possessions. Instead go in faith where God directs you. He will provide for your every need. We are also called to provide for those who do God’s work. Pray and give generously so they are able to continue to build God’s kingdom.
